Wall Of Kindness And Giving – GNSOTD Monday July 8th 2019

In the North End of Winnipeg is a pizza shop called SFC Pizzeria run by Vikas Sanger and his wife, Shivani Sanger. Vikas and Shivani both came to Canada has students and decided to stay. Now Vikas runs his pizza shop and Shivani is a dental hygienist. But the two are also incredibly caring and giving people. Vikas says that when he opened his shop it didn’t take long before people showed up hoping to get a bite to eat who couldn’t afford the $1 slices he offered. He said he was torn on what to do “In our culture … if somebody comes and asks for food, we cannot deny them, because they are hungry. … But I just opened a new restaurant, so I cannot afford to [give] everything free.” The solution that he and his wife came up with is brilliant.

They created a wall of giving in the store. A “Pay-it-forward pinboard” if you will. Customers of means who come in are able to give a dollar and then write a message of kindness on a sticky note and put it up on the board in the store.

When somebody comes in who needs something to eat, they can grab a sticky note from the wall and redeem it, either for a slice of pizza or anything else in the store. Already, the wall has filled up with notes carrying sweet messages of support: “May you find some magic in today,” “You are light and happiness,” and “Have a very pepperoni day.” “Somebody comes and they take the sticky note … they can choose which blessing they need,” Sanger said. “What else you want as an owner, or as a person, or as a human, to see a smile on someone’s face because of you, or because of your donating [customers]?”

It is a beautiful thing to see, because this is more than just two kind people giving something back, this is an entire community who has come together to make sure no one goes without at least a bit of warm food in their bellies. Read more in your Good News Story of the Day here.

“35. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, 36. I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’” – Matthew 25: 35 – 36

Be kind, be caring, be giving, and give of yourself more than money, but your time and mind to those in need. God bless.
