Viral Video Shows Young Men Helping Elderly Couple – GNSOTD Friday Feb 8 2019

There are moments that are so pure and kind that they captivate the attention, even if just for a few moments, and this is what the entirety of your Good News Story of the Day is about. Finding those moments and sharing them with you. Today’s comes from Levy County, Florida, where a video has gone viral; being seen by 23 million people. In the video you can see a trio of individuals helping an elderly couple into their vehicle.

It was filmed by long time County Sherriff’s Deputy Kanesha Carnegie who had been sitting in her cruiser when she saw the older couple struggling but before she could step in these three young men stepped up and asked if they could help. When she saw they had the situation in hand she pulled out her phone and captured the moment for all to see. When you take a look you will understand why. But in her words “I thought at the time they looked really beautiful and that was a nice view to see. I stepped back and just videoed them,” She knew the men from the neighborhood. “They do a little rapping in the local community, so I know them and they know me,” she said. She’s been a deputy in Levy County for 18 years, and knows a bit about the men’s backgrounds, too. “They don’t have the greatest history,” she said. “And that’s the beauty of it.”

These men exemplify why judging a book by it’s cover is a problem. And if you ask them they don’t think what they did was a big deal. Joc Smooth, 26, said he and his friends didn’t hesitate to help. “It was just instinct,” he said. And it should be for all, when you see someone in trouble you help, that is just how it should be. And it is nice to see that for some it still is.
