Fathers Day may have been last month but an appreciation for Dad shouldn’t be relegated to one day of the year. In your Good News Story of the Day Today there is a young man in Alabama who was finally able to show his Dad how much he appreciates him. 25-year-old Diantae Thomas, who lives in Missouri, said he earns about $200 a game playing indoor football up in Bismark, North Dakota, and he saved up most of those earnings for a surprise for his father.
Lester Thomas is a landscaper and handyman, two years ago his car broke down and since then he has been reliant on wife Darlene to cart him to and from work. Not an ideal situation. That’s where Diantae came up with his idea. And so saving a bit from every game he played he put together enough to buy his Dad a new truck. He surprised him one morning when Diantae led his dad outside of his Alabama home onto the street, blindfolded with only socks covering his feet. When Diantae removed the blindfold, Lester laid eyes on the Ford F-150 he’d bought for him. Lester lept right into his son’s arms and started to sob. “I knew he was going to cry, but I didn’t know he was going to go all out, which it was — it was crazy and my mom said now, until this day, he’ll be crying sometimes. Like, he don’t believe it.”
Why would this son put so much into a gift for his father? “My dad means a lot. He framed me to how I am today, showed me the odds and ends, showing me the ins and outs. Showing me everything to become a man. You only have one dad, you only have one mom. So I try my best to keep them happy, being the baby out of nine,” he said. It doesn’t matter if you are one of nine, or the only child, Diantae is right, you only have one father. Appreciate them as much as you can. And don’t forget Mom! Diantae has a plan already but you’ll have to go here and read about that in your Good News Story of the Day.
