There are times when it doesn’t take much to change the world. Even a brown bag lunch can be a big difference and no one knows that like a kid. And at just 12 years old there is a young lad in Cambridge, Massachusetts who has taken that knowledge to the streets and done an impressive job of changing his community. His name is Liam Hannon and his program is called Liam’s Lunches of Love; a simple brown bag lunch with a hand-written message of positivity on the side.
In fact, his efforts to date have helped over 2,000 of residents of the city, something that everyone;including the mayor have noticed. “In this time when there seems to be so much negativity, maybe you have to turn to a 12-year-old to lead the way,” said Cambridge Mayor Marc McGovern. And Liam doesn’t do it on his own, he gets quite a bit of help with his online fundraising page which has raised more than $44,000 and counting – raising more than $17,000 in just one day, with help of actor Harry Connick, Jr. and others. He has also received hand crafted bags from as far away as Kentucky.
Although he is gaining all this recognition and aid, it isn’t fame that young Hannon wants, it is reciprocity “I think the message is to spread positivity within people,” said Liam.
Liam is doing just that, one paper bag lunch at a time. To read more about Liam’s Lunches of Love and to see the video you can go to your Good News Story of the Day here.
