Wind Warning And Blowing Snow Advisory For Sunday February 24 2019

With the forecast calling for winds gusting up to 100km/h or 110km/h for much of Southern Ontario or even higher possible around the shoreline it is no surprise that there has been a Wind Warning issued for Today;

Major wind storm beginning this morning.

Very strong southwest winds with frequent gusts of 100 to 110 km/h will begin this morning in the wake of a sharp arctic cold front blasting across the region.

Wind gusts of 120 km/h are likely in areas along the shores of Lake Huron and Lake Erie, as well as over higher elevations like the Dundalk Highlands.

The damaging winds will continue into this evening, then will gradually start to diminish near midnight, except near Lakes Erie and Huron where they may persist most of the night.

Power outages are possible.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

And with the Rain turning into Flurries by this afternoon just in time for those heavy winds there is also a Special Weather Statement regarding blowing snow;

Poor visibilities in local blowing snow this afternoon through tonight.

Flurries and strong westerly winds with gusts of 70 to 100 km/h are expected following the passage of a sharp cold front today. Any fresh snow will be whipped up by the winds creating near whiteout conditions at times in blowing snow.

Conditions will slowly improve early Monday morning as winds begin to diminish.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

It is recommended that you do your best to prepare for this storm by ensuring no objects that could become projectiles in the wind are left outside and to be ready for any possible power outages or travel issues that may arise from the storm.
