The Ontario Provincial Government made an announcement this week that it was willing to bend on some of the key issues that had been discussed in the months of Teacher strikes, which have shut down schools in all parts of the Province, but the Union response was that the public announcement is not the same as bringing a proper proposal to the table; and they were no longer willing to take the public word of the Government representatives.
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) is sticking to their plan to give the Province until Tomorrow, March 6th, to make a deal before they escalate their job action again. If nothing gets settled by then there is a phase 7 slated to begin on Monday, March 9th, which could see rotating strike action resume. Details will be released on Saturday, March 7th, should they be necessary.
Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO), the union that represents French-language teachers and education workers will continue with their planned Province wide strike Today.
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), who had previously cancelled job action to enter negotiations that led nowhere have said they will not do so again and so their Province wide strike, also scheduled for Today, will continue.
A previously announced strike action by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) did have the possibility of being postponned with informal talks happening earlier with the Province. Sadly the Provinces’ decision came after these discussions and so the OSSTF planned rotating strikes Today will happen in the following regions:
- Rainy River District School Board
- Near North District School Board
- Grand Erie District School Board
- Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board
- Toronto District School Board
- Simcoe County District School Board
- Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board
- Trillium Lakelands District School Board
- Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board
That means that only Grand Erie Elementary school students will be in school Today.
