Lisa Mollet works as a server at Empire Diner in Brooklawn, New Jersey. She has been there for four years and in that time she has made some connections with a few regulars. But just like most in the service industry Lisa had a rough spring as the pandemic hit and shut down a lot of things and kept a lot of people home.
She was off from March until June, unable to work, unable to make money, and just hoping to get back to work. Fortunately she was given that opportunity in June, but then she was hit with another obstacle; her car broke down.
“It was hard, it was very challenging. I’m a single mom with two kids. I have my own house,” she explained. “Paying the bills, trying to get everyone right, keep everyone happy.” She didn’t have money to replace the car, but she could keep working at the diner by taking an Uber.
Apparently two of her regulars found out about her having a hard time and were able to do something about it. They left her a generous tip, a VERY generous tip, in the form of a 2006 Nissan. The two requested to remain anonymous and nobody is going to break that, especially after they did something so nice.
But now Lisa has a car she can use to commute to work, and also take the kids where they need to go.“They are wonderful people. They come here constantly. They come here with their family. They’re like family to me.” She said. “It’s a blessing. They blessed me,” she said of the gift from the unnamed customers.
Find out more about Lisa and her tip, even watch a video on it, in your Good News Story of the Day here. But remember, even if you cannot bless someone with a car, you can always bless them with love, kindness, and your time. Hopefully, if your Good News Stories have shown anything, its that those can be pretty powerful.
