Monday’s High Winds Caused Flooding Along Lake Erie Shoreline

Even though they didn’t get quite the high winds that were forecast for Monday it didn’t stop the flooding that happened along the shoreline of Lake Erie. Long Point, Turkey Point, and Port Dover all saw water reaching well inland and in some cases causing damage to homes and businesses by flooding.

Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk reported on the flooding from Port Dover and Turkey point, but with a specific goal – to stop drivers from crossing barriers and going through the water. The wake of the vehicles causes more damage to surrounding buildings and the water potentially hides dangers that put not only the passengers of the vehicle at risk, but first responders also.

The danger is not passed either, with lake levels high there is still a risk of further flooding even from lighter winds. If you are near or intend to be near the lake please watch for flood warnings and heed all road signs warning of danger.
