There was no charitable cause, no one in desperate need, just some proud parents which led to this story making the rounds. On this Monday morning your Good News Story of the Day is as simple as they get.
In South Brunswick, New Jersey there were a group of young teens who made their way to their local skate park to hang out together enjoying the spring weather. At the park already was five year old Carter Bruynell and his mother who were out celebrating his birthday. Carter is on the autism spectrum and typically groups of older kids make him nervous; so his mother was prepared to leave the park with Carter when something unexpected happened.
Gavin Mabes, a 13-year-old was with his friends entering the park when they decided to approach Carter and invite him to play with them, his friends followed along and soon the whole group of them were having a grand old time. According to Carter’s mother Kristen “Gavin is just going around with him and making him feel special. And the rest of his friends kind of followed suit and then started singing Happy Birthday to him, that really blew me away, ’cause you just want to see the kindness in the world. And I wanted Carter to have a good birthday.”
It turned out to be a great birthday and the kids kindness caught all kinds of attention including that of the local police department who decided to throw all of the kids a pizza party. That’s enough to make any parent proud. You can read how Gavin’s mom reacted to the news in your Good News Story of the Day here. But you should also know that the kids continue to hang out even after their story spread around.
