“Someone once said, ‘If you take care of God’s business, he’ll take care of yours,'” Brandon Johnson said. “We just felt prompted to come out and serve our community.” That is the owner of a roofing company in Charlotte, North Carolina who recently helped replace a roof of a couple that had been dealing with troubles for some time.
That couple is Wade and Louise Lunsford who couldn’t afford to spend the thousands of dollars needed to repair their deteriorating roof, which constantly leaked when it would rain. They even had to use makeshift tubs to catch the rainwater. “We’d have to get up at four, five o’clock in the morning and empty it when it’s starting to get filled up,” Louise Lunsford said.
Their plight made them reach out for help as so many do these days with a GoFundMe page asking for aid. That page is what caught then attention of Johnson and urged him to get involved; eventually even challenging other business owners to help their communities; “Step up; reach out; pay it forward,” Johnson said. “I think if we’re blessed with those kinds of resources, it’s our job to give it back.”
This kind of mentality is what loving your neighbour is all about. You don’t need to pay for a whole new roof either, there are many ways you can step up; reach out; pay it forward. If only we look.
