Fall Fair Season In Ontario

It is Fall Fair Season in Ontario! That means there are going to be plenty of places to go and visit and every weekend to keep the family entertained as the days begin to get shorter and the temperature gets set to fall. These fairs also have an incredible history in Ontario with generations being able to enjoy them; some go as far back as to be older than Confederation, such as the Williamstown Fair in the eastern part of the province, which began in 1808!


And, while many of those fairs started as a way for farmers to discuss their yields and what worked or didn’t work that season, they have grown in scope and audience. Today, there are over 200 agricultural fairs taking place in Ontario every year, running from May to October where families can see where their food comes from and meet those who produce it, as well as see shows, enjoy rides, purchase goods, and find out who has the best horse, bull, or apple pie! If you’d like to find out for yourself we’ve put together a short list of some of the closer fairs that are coming up in the next few weeks:


The 169th Ancaster Fair- Location: 630 Trinity Rd S, Jerseyville. Dates: September 19th to September 22nd. “Family Ties & Homemade Pies at the 169th Ancaster Fair. Join us for livestock exhibits, shows, crafts, baking, canning and so much more. There will be competitions, food and craft concessions, and endless entertainment.” Find more at: ancasterfair.ca


The 178th Stratford Fall Fair. Location: 357 McCarthy Rd, Stratford. Dates: September 19th to September 22nd. “Celebrating Our Grand Lady, She is UDDERLY Beautiful”! The 178th Stratford Fall Fair begins Thursday with Seniors Day, including Baseball and Euchre, as well as an interactive FARM TO YOU, and the Midway by Campbells Amusements. 169th Drumbo Fall Fair. Location: 42 Centre St, Drumbo. Dates: September 20th to September 22nd. “Variety of entertainment on our outdoor stage for all ages all weekend, Agricultural & Home Craft Exhibits, School Fair Exhibits, Baby Show, Youth, Minis & Heavy Horse Shows, Beef Show, Youth Poultry, Rabbit & Pet Shows, Talent Show, Old McDonalds Farm, Children’s Village with bales of straw and inflatables.” Find more at: www.drumbofair.com


36th St. George Applefest. Location: St. George, ON, multiple streets and locations. Dates: September 21st and September 22nd. “Listed as a Top 100 Festival in Ontario (5 years) and winner of the 2018 #GoodTimesinBrant award, St. George AppleFest is an affordable family outing. There is everything apple – homemade pies, fresh apples, apple dumplings, apple cider, candied apples. 162nd Donnybrook Fair. Location: Walsh Fairgrounds, 1258 Turkey Point Rd, Simcoe. Dates: September 21st to September 22nd. “The Donnybrook Fair is an annual two day event, held at 1258 Turkey Point Rd. The fair has been held every year from 1857 until the present, making September 21-22, 2019 the 162nd Fair. This September event involves the children of Walsh Public School, St. Michael’s School, and other neighboring schools as well as the home schooled. Children enter their arts, crafts and locally grown agricultural commodities to compete for prize money and ribbons.” Find more at: donnybrookfair.ca


146th Caledonia Fair. Location: 151 Caithness St E, Caledonia. Dates: September 26th to September 29th. “The Country Fair of Your Memories. The things you can’t miss, the things you always need to eat, see, or do. Maybe this year, you’ll find a new favourite?” Theme this year is Creating Memories. 166th Milton Fall Fair. Location: 136 Robert St, Milton. Dates: September 27th to September 29th. “Falling for the fair. Milton Fall Fair is a celebration of rural life and you’re invited to the party.” With Livestock & Poultry Shows, an Agricultural Awareness Tent, Livestock Display Barn, Truck & Tractor Pull, Demo Derbies, Midway, 4-H Activities, Petting Zoo, Homecraft Exhibits, Classic Car Show, and a Beer Tent. 179th Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show. Location: 172 South Dr, Simcoe. Dates: October 8th to October 14th. “Oh, those wonderful excitement-filled carnivals of our youth, where clouds of pink candy floss stick to our fingers and the showmen beckon us to win the “doggee-doggee”! Where the carousels spin round and round, lights flash and the music plays on. 159th Burford Fall Fair. Location: 6 Park Ave, Brant. Dates: October 11th to October 14th. “Are you looking for something fun for the whole family?
