Disney To Re-theme Splash Mountain Ride At Parks

Disney has decided to re-theme their ride, Splash Mountain which first opened at Disneyland in 1989, shortly after the film which inspired the ride, Song of the South had it’s 40th anniversary. This was also around the same time Disney stopped making the movie available because of its stereotypical and racist depictions of African Americans. It has been put in the vault for decades and there’s whole generations who have never seen it.

Instead, Disney has announced, the ride in both the Disneyland California park and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida, will be turned into an adventure around The Princess and the Frog with Princess Tiana and Louis.

This will be the first attraction based on Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, which came out in 2009 as the first Disney movie featuring an African American princess.

According to Disney: “We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”

You can find all of the information with this announcement at the Disney Parks Blog.
