Today is the day that 29 Year Old, Lindsay Bowman, of Brantford will begin cycling 153 kilometres over the next two days.
Canada is celebrating it’s 153rd birthday Tomorrow but Lindsay’s cause is using that number to help Canadians as she aims to raise funds for Canadian Blood Services with the Bike for Blood. She is looking to raise $1,530.00 with her effort and she hopes to convince 153 people to donate blood.
She says that she has been regularly donating blood herself, and will be making her 16th donation next month, and on her page she also lists a few of the reasons she donates:
- Every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood
- It can take up to 50 units of blood (that’s 50 different people donating!) to save the victim of a car accident
- Leukemia patients need 8 units of blood per week
- An hour of my life could give someone the rest of theirs
She will ride 50 kilometres Today, and 103 kilometres Tomorrow. She will be doing loops through Ancaster, Kitchener and Paris, making stops for food and drink at her north-end Brantford home.
If you are out looking for her she will be a somewhat easy to spot. She will be wearing a custom-made racing bib, bearing a QR code that people can scan, directing them to her donation page at give.blood.ca/goto/bike4blood
So far donations on her page have reached $1,350.00, as of posting, which brings her so very close to her goal. There’s no count of how many have been inspired to donate blood.
Not everyone is able to donate blood, and not everyone is able to donate financially; but hopefully you can do one or the other.
