Ten-year-old Ryan Hickman began a journey when he was 3, his dad took him to a recycling centre with a small bag of cans and bottles, Ryan loved the experience and wanted to keep going. That was in 2012, the same year the Hickman’s started Ryan’s Recycling – which has since recycled 103,000 pounds of cans and bottles and donated more than $9,000 to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.
Ryan has become an international icon for recycling awareness. He’s active in leading beach cleanup events in Orange County and travels globally speaking about recycling and saving the planet. He’s also junior ambassador for Recycle Across America, Sand Cloud, Busch Systems, and Valet Living. Ryan’s Recycling was presented with the Future Leader Award by Ware Disposal during the Greater Irvine Chamber’s inaugural 40 Under 40 reception earlier this month, on Oct. 3rd.
Ryan is employee, manager, and CEO of the group, and wants to keep working to clean the environment and save the seals. His story is your Good News Story of the Day, watch the video here, and his inspiration to others to pursue their passions and causes for good is certainly worth the few minutes. Maybe give it a watch while you enjoy a doughnut?
